The birth of a child is often described as one of life’s happiest moments. But for many fathers, the experience is more complex. Research shows that fathers frequently experience stress, anxiety, emotional withdrawal, and identity shifts during the postpartum period, yet their needs often go unrecognized or unsupported (Watkins et al., 2024; Copland & Hunter, 2025).
Studies estimate that up to 1 in 10 fathers experience depression, and even more report anxiety, relationship strain, or feeling disconnected during this transition (Schöch et al., 2024). Despite this, many fathers do not seek help due to stigma, lack of awareness, or feeling that support is not meant for them (Mancinelli & Filippi, 2025).
